Confidentiality and Professional Requirements
ConfidentialityAll of my counselling work is confidential. This means that everything disclosed to me is not disclosed elsewhere. The only exception to this would be if I am made aware of a significant risk of harm to you or another person(s), or a child protection issue. If such a situation arises I will make every effort to work with you on the matter.
Professional Memberships
I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). As such I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the professional conduct procedure therein. (Click here to view the BACP Ethical Framework)
I am also a member of the British Association for the Person Centred Approach (BAPCA) and the Counselling Code of Conduct (CCC).
Supervision
As required by BACP Ethical Framework I meet regularly with my supervisor. He is a very experienced psychotherapist and psychologist who is qualified to supervise counsellors, psychotherapists and counselling psychologists. These meetings ensure that I am working within ethical boundaries. I may occasionally discuss aspects of the work I am doing with you with my supervisor - but your name will never be disclosed nor any other identifying information.
Training
I am currently undertaking further training - a Masters Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute. I ask all my clients if they have any objection to my bringing aspects of the work we do in our sessions to my training group. Your identity will of course be safeguarded. If you are uncomfortable with this idea then I will not do it. As part of my training I am required also to record some of my work with clients. Small sections of these recordings may be played to my supervisor to assist with my professional development. I will ask you in our first session whether you are happy for me to do this - no problem at all if you do not feel comfortable with recording - we simply won't do it.
